Mountain Hikes, Lost Water Bottles, and Line Dancing!
Team Green’sBlog: With the tents successfully pitched, it was time for our first full day of activities in the beautiful Innsbruck area!
The Hills Are Alive
When in Austria, it only makes sense to lean into the local culture right from the moment you wake up.
“We started the morning to the sound of music, quite literally, at 7am and had a relaxing breakfast and lunch packing.”
Gondolas and Casualties
The campsite in Igls is perfectly located for alpine adventures, so the team didn’t have to go far to start their ascent. However, the journey up wasn’t without its minor tragedies.
“We then proceeded to travel up the gondola that is conveniently right next to our campsite (someone dropped their water bottle onto the floor beneath the gondola at the a station half way up, they didn’t get it back).”
“Once up the mountain we had a circular hike up to the top then around the side with a brief stop to have lunch in the shade by a cafe at the top. Then we hiked back to the gondola and some visited the botanical garden and others rode it down early.”
Once safely at the top (minus one water bottle), the Explorers took in the stunning scenery.
Burgers, Rain, and Dancing
After a busy morning of hiking, the team headed into the city of Innsbruck for some exploring and a very nutritious dinner.
“We had a brief break at the campsite then headed into Innsbruck by bus. We promptly had burgers and chips for dinner then explored the town.”
True to the unpredictable nature of camping, the weather decided to keep everyone on their toes upon their return.
“Arriving at the campsite it started to rain so some rushed to bring in their washing. We are now going to the country and western Line Dancing at the gondola station.”
Line dancing is definitely a new Scouting skill for the books!
