Pre-Jamboree: The Icelandic Adventure Starts Here (July 9th – 11th)
Hey everyone! It all kicked off on July 9th, 2024, when our group of 22 Explorers and leaders from Altrincham packed our bags and set off to Iceland. First stop, the epic landscape of Úlfljótsvatn, where we got to set up our camp. The views were unreal! The following day, we kicked things off with a tour of Iceland’s famous spots on the ‘Golden Circle’. The geysers were like nature’s fireworks, and the waterfalls were amazing. Despite getting drenched in the rain it didn’t dampen our spirits. The highlight, a thrilling glacier hike where we got to use crampons & ice axes, and we even drank from a glacier stream! We were buzzing for what was to come!
The Jamboree Experience: One Crazy Week! (July 12th – 18th)
The official jamboree week was, in one word, epic. Everywhere you looked, there were Scouts from all over the world. It felt like our own mini Olympic village packed with activities! We dived straight into archery, tackled outdoor cooking challenges (hello, “love balls”), and even got to climb some crazy heights. By day, we were mastering new skills and making friends from Canada, the U.S., Sweden, you name it. By night, the discos and campfires gave us memories we’ll never forget. Plus, the badge trading became its own sport. Everyone wanted one of our Altrincham neckers!
Post-Jamboree: Farewell, Iceland (July 19th – 21st)
After the jamboree, we weren’t quite ready to head home just yet. After helping others pack down their tents, we hiked up to a natural hot spring for some chill time. It also gave us a wash with warm water! Our final day was in Reykjavik, where we had a chance to play tourist, visit the museums, and of course, grab some ice cream.
Packing up was bittersweet, despite it being at midnight. Our coach arrived at 2:15 am to take us to the airport, and as we said our goodbyes, we headed home with memories and friendships to remember forever. Goodbye, Iceland! Until next time…
